From a small lumber operation in Augusta, Georgia, to one of North America's largest manufacturers of building materials — our history is built on reliable products, responsible sourcing, and the trust of generations of builders.
Georgia-Pacific LLC was founded in Augusta, Georgia in 1927 as a hardwood lumber wholesaler. Over nearly a century, the company expanded through strategic vertical integration — acquiring timberlands, building planing mills, and developing proprietary panel manufacturing technology that would eventually make it a defining name in North American structural building materials.
The development of OSB (oriented strand board) technology in the 1970s and 1980s marked a pivotal chapter. Georgia-Pacific was among the first manufacturers to invest at scale in OSB production, recognising that the engineered panel's consistent mechanical properties and more efficient use of timber fibre would eventually displace plywood in many structural sheathing applications.
Today, Georgia-Pacific operates 29 manufacturing facilities across the United States and Canada, producing vinyl siding, OSB, plywood, gypsum wallboard, MDF, and specialty panels under a family of trusted brand names including Compass®, DensShield®, DensGlass®, and Blue Ribbon® OSB.
Load-rated panels and boards that undergo rigorous third-party testing to meet and surpass IBC, IRC, and ASTM standards. Every panel carries verified span ratings and load capacities that architects and engineers can specify with confidence.
Our timber is sourced exclusively from SFI-certified forests managed for long-term health. Manufacturing facilities operate under zero-landfill improvement programs, and wood-based panels sequester carbon throughout the building's useful life.
With nearly 100 years in the structural materials business, Georgia-Pacific has built lasting relationships with distribution networks, code bodies, and major commercial developers. Our specs appear in more than 180,000 active building projects.
Whether you're a production builder, architect, or distributor, our team is ready to support your specification and procurement needs.
